The Mekong Delta, “the rice bowl of Vietnam”, is a highly fertile plain with its myriad waterways, lush and green paddy fields, tropical fruit orchards, and fish farms. Rural life here remains in many ways similar to how it was lived far back in the past. Geographically featured as the gateway to the Delta, Ben Tre is an ideal gem for travellers who are seeking a glimpse of agrarian river life.

    Tour Itinerary

Depart from your hotel at 08.00, after around 2.5-hours-drive from busting Saigon, we arrive Cai Thia, located in Tien Giang province and one of the biggest fruit growing areas of Mekong Delta.

Exchange vehicle for bicycle as you will take in a 1.5-2 hour cycling trip along small tranquil paths around the remote yet beautiful village of Hoa Loc. There is a chance to see traditional houses made of wood and palm tree leaves, learn how local farmers catch fish, or pick up fruits by ancient ways in the Mekong Delta. Stop at a local family, nestled away in a fruitful orchard, where you engage in fun chat with a local farmer to gain a glimpse of the lifestyle in Vietnam’s agrarian heartland.

Later, take the rowing sampan to get deeper inside the maze of small and quiet canals. After feasting on Mekong Delta specialties, you may wish to take a stroll around the orchard to see how the fruit is cultivated.

Stroll around the sleepy villages on the peaceful islet and visit some local workshops producing coconut candy or pop-rice…Cruise back to the mainland where your car is waiting for a 3-hour drive back to Ho Chi Minh City. End of excursion.

    1. Adrian & Helen Cooper –

It’s no exaggeration to say that Lot has made our holiday to Vietnam one of the best we’ve ever had. Everything was well organised – Lot pays great attention to detail and we really enjoyed meeting the villagers and understanding something of their lifestyle and local economy. There’s so much to see and lunch was amazing!
